Born and bred on Skye James is more at home in the Cuillin than most. “As a kid I always tried to use my hands as little as possible wherever I went- it helped with balance and kept the skin on my fingers.” Sound advice to any Cuillin climber!
Bouldering really lit James’s passion for climbing. He has worked at the Glen Brittle campsite every summer since 2002. Very soon after arriving he wrote the first ever guidebook to bouldering on Skye. Since then he has played host to some of Scotland’s best-known climbers, showing them around his own personal climbing playground in Coire Lagan.
Whilst studying in Glasgow James instructed climbing at the Ibrox wall for two years.
Frequent winter jaunts and climbing trips to the Alps and North America have made James the complete Scottish mountaineer.
James is another of our IRATA technicians and also works as a landscape gardener through the winter months. James is available for guiding the Cuillin Munros, classic scrambles, rock climbing, bouldering and winter climbing.
