Notes
Professional guiding and instruction is available for anyone with a good level of fitness. Beginners are assured that all equipment will be provided and necessary training given. More experienced mountaineers can use a Skye Guide to achieve long-held ambitions or to expand their skill set in order to improve their own climbing.

It has been said that a good mountaineer trained in the Scottish Highlands is prepared for mountains anywhere in the world. Skye Guides offers an accelerated learning curve for anyone with serious mountaineering ambitions.

Winter courses are necessarily flexible to allow for the huge variation in weather & mountain conditions possible. Conditions are often wildly different from one side of Scotland to the other so accommodation is normally booked at the last minute. A Skye Guide can also be booked at very short notice if the forecast is looking promising.

Locations

Skye
The Isle of Skye offers the widest variety of potential per square mile in Scotland. To many the Black Cuillin is the obvious mountain venue. The view from anywhere on the Ridge shows why they really are the “British Alps”. Outings are possible for novices with a good level of fitness. For the adventurous there are very few limitations; Skye Guides let loose in winter have many ideas up their sleeves for their “home turf”! There is huge scope for new routes and the ultimate prize in British mountaineering- a winter Traverse.

The Red Cuillin and Trotternish Ridge are less well publicised but offer everything from short beautiful walks to some of the hardest routes in Britain. Solitude is guaranteed wherever you walk on Skye in winter.

Torridon
Torridon mountains are many Scots favourite winter venue. For the walker there are countless classic ridge walks. For the climber Torridon is the main venue for water ice in Scotland. Places in the Ling hut in Glen Torridon are easily arranged.

Ben Nevis
“There is always something to climb on the Ben” is a very sound bit of advice passed on to all keen SMC (Scottish Mountaineering Club) members. Places in the CIC hut are easily arranged. It gives the perfect base from which to climb routes of every grade without a long approach walk every day.

Cairngorm
The Cairngorms are sometimes used when there is a big split in temperature and conditions between the West and East of the Highlands.  Easy access and a wide variety of grades make it a popular venue in which to learn new skills.
